Unconditional loving care for your pet ...
Peace of mind for you.

How Do You Select a Great Pet Sitter?
Asking a neighborhood teen to see to your pets while you are away may seem to be the easiest thing to do, but it's not usually the best choice. You need someone who is experienced in animal care, who knows what to do in case of emergency, and who has a back-up if for some reason he or she can't make it to your house. Start your seach for a reliable petsitter far enough in advance for you to check out references. You'll also want to schedule an interview so your pets can meet their future caretaker. There should be no charge for this meeting.

Denver petsittingYour first step is to look for a company that keeps regular office hours. Phone calls and emails should be returned by the end of the day. You must be able to reach your petsitter in case of a change in plans. Ask for established fees over the phone. You should also be
given those rates in writing. Also, ask for references and check them out.

Then arrange an interview in person. You'll think of your own questions, but here are some important ones to consider.

Are you fully licensed and insured? Can you provide criminal background check verification? Be sure you look at the documents for yourself.

Are you or your company a member of Pet Sitters International, or any other professional pet organizations? These associations insure that your petsitter has the latest information on pet care and access to educational materials on how to provide the best service.

Do you have a contingency plan for medical issues, and are you trained in pet first aid? Will the petsitter use your own vet if there is a problem? Which emergency vet does the company use for off-hours crises?

Will you follow my instructions for feeding, exercising and walking my pet? Part of the advantage of in-home pet care is that your pets' routine will not be upset. The schedule used should be yours, not one for the petsitter's convenience.

Are you available on short notice, and can you accommodate my schedule? How far in advance do you need to book care? What happens if you cancel at the last minute?

Will you provide a written note or periodic e-mail updates on how the visit(s) went? Just a little note saying how well your cat ate or that the sitter played ball with the dog for 15 minutes gives you a lot of peace of mind.

You should end this interview with the definite feeling that your pet sitter will have your pet’s safety and welfare as the top priority. And most important of all, of course, your pet should be happy to see the sitter arrive!
